James
Coding + Design + AI + 3D
James is a lifelike virtual moderator designed to redefine digital events by bridging cutting-edge AI with real-world human interaction.
Project Overview
James is a 3D avatar that I designed and developed to serve as a virtual event moderator, playing a key role at the La Diseñería event that took place on December 10th, 2024, at Columbia Teachers College in New York. As the moderator, James lead discussions on the intersections of Design, Artificial Intelligence, and Education, featuring speakers from renowned organizations such as Duolingo, Google DeepMind, Board of Innovation, and more.
James exemplifies the future of event moderation and digital interaction by creating a dynamic, engaging experience for attendees. Built using a robust tech stack, James leverages Three.js, React, and react-three-fiber to create an immersive, real-time 3D environment accessible through web-based platforms. Detailed GLTF models ensure efficient loading and high-quality visuals. To deliver lifelike expressions and seamless lip-syncing, James incorporates Apple ARKit-compatible morph targets and a sophisticated AnimationMixer for complex animations. Communication with backend services is facilitated through Axios, allowing James to process audio inputs and translate them into accurate lip movements for realistic engagement.
As both the creator of James and one of the hosts of the event, I aimed to demonstrate how innovative technologies can transform the way we interact, learn, and collaborate.
